What Is Airbrush Makeup And What Makes It Better Than Traditional Liquid, Powder, And Mineral Makeup?

Airbrush makeup is a product (foundation, blush, highlighter, contour, lip gloss, eye shadow, etc.) designed to be turned into millions of droplets of fine mist when it is infused with air as a compressor (the power source) pushes the air through an airbrush (the application tool - aka, airbrush, stylus and airbrush gun). It replaces sponges, fingers, brushes, etc., making it more hygienic and considerably safer to use.

With airbrush makeup, less product is required to provide a fuller, finer, even, and more natural coverage. It produces a natural looking sheer texture at the same time it yields full coverage. The end result is skin that looks flawless created with a minimum of product! The appearance of digital media with photography and hi-definition television has placed airbrush makeup in the spotlight as it is needed for the red-carpet "stars" to look their best - it is their job and they prefer airbrush makeup because of its superior quality. For the person who wants to look their best, Belloccio Airbrush Makeup offers high-quality, star power airbrush makeup to everyone.

How Do I Find My Color?

There are two steps (before purchase and after purchase).

STEP 1- BEFORE PURCHASE: If you are purchasing your system, go to www.belloccio.com. Under the Belloccio logo you will find a brown strip with four topics: Makeup, Tanning, Why Airbrush?, and Resources. Move your cursor over "Makeup" (do not click on it) and a drop-down menu will appear. In the drop-down menu, choose "Shade Finder" and click on it. Four shade types will appear with samples of the people who fit into those shades. The four groups are: Fair, Medium, Tan and Dark. For your information, most people fit into the medium category. Fair comes in second, tan is third and Dark is the most exotic. Click on "Next" and "Previous" (located under the photos) to move through the categories. When you find your best match, click on that set of photos to move to the details of that category and see what you will receive in your system. The good news: Belloccio Airbrush Makeup is your friend. You will get four foundation colors to work with (along with many more necessities)! More about that detail in the next part. Time to choose and purchase your system.

STEP 2- AFTER PURCHASE: Here is how to find your color. Gather the four foundations from your system and shake each of them for about 30 seconds. Put a drop of your first color choice on your index finger and pat a "stripe" on your (clean) cheek down to your jawline. If you don't see that color, you have arrived. That is your color. You are ready to go. If the color is close it will most likely become exact as it is sprayed on. If none of the foundations are a close match, no problem - with airbrush makeup, you can mix them and create your perfect palette! Try this: mix the two colors that come closest to your skin color. Your skin color may want 3 drops of one and 2 of the other. Or? You will need to experiment. Once complete, you will enjoy perfection!

Can I Use Traditional Makeup And Other Airbrush Brands In My Airbrush?

Yes and No.

YES: Belloccio makeup is WATER-BASED and is designed to work with the equipment provided in your system. If you use another brand that is water-based you will probably (no guarantee) be happy.

NO: If you intend to utilize silicone-based airbrush products, they have heavier pigments and will likely clog your Belloccio system very quickly.
NO: The makeup designed for use in an airbrush is much more liquid than traditional makeup lines - it is designed for delivery by a compressor and airbrush. Traditional makeup is considerably thicker and will clog your equipment.

How Long Will The Makeup Last?

When applied properly, Belloccio Airbrush Makeup will last 10 (+) hours. Here are some factors that can impact the optimal makeup experience:

  • Is your face fresh and clean? If not, the makeup may not bond properly and will not last as long.
  • Do you apply your makeup in one heavy application? With airbrush makeup, less is more! Always apply a light coat. If it is not enough, apply another light coat until you are satisfied. This will make your outcome the best and longest.

How Do I Set Up My Equipment?

CONNECTING THE STANDARD BELLOCCIO SYSTEM (the compressor and components are labeled in the instruction manual brochure and can also be located under "Resources"/Brochures)
  • First, layout all the components of the system.
  • Unravel the cord to the 12V DC power adapter and plug the adapter end into the compressor and have the plug ready to plug into an 110V electrical outlet. (Note: Belloccio also offers an optional “On-The-Go” Rechargeable Battery Pack. These are great if you do not have access to an outlet, or if you are traveling. When fully charged the battery packs run time is over 2 hours.)
  • Unravel the rubber air hose. Take one end of the hose and connect it to the compressor by pushing it all the way onto the compressors air outlet. Take the other end of the hose and connect it to the airbrush by pushing it all the way onto the airbrushes air inlet.
  • Insert the airbrush into the holder.
  • Now, plug the cord into an 110V electrical outlet and you’re ready to go.

How Do I Clean My Equipment And How Much Time Does It Take?

HOW TO CLEAN THE AIRBRUSH IN ONE MINUTE OR LESS! If done daily after you use your equipment, quick cleaning (under a minute - really!) will provide your equipment the ability to serve, and you the ability to always be ready to go! Here are the instructions:

  • Use compressor setting on High.
  • Excess product gets poured in the sink with water running, place water in cup and pull back trigger all the way throughout the cleaning process.
  • Let the water run through the airbrush then add the cleaner in the cup while maintaining the trigger pulled back.
  • Take a cotton swab to clean the inside of the cup
  • Use the cotton swab to clean inside the front of the needle cap while the trigger continues to be pulled all the way back, (prevents the needle from touching the cotton swab). Twist cotton swab clockwise inside the needle cap to avoid unscrewing the nozzle.
  • Run the water through once more, untwist the back and take the needle out. Wipe with a tissue and place the needle back into the airbrush, tighten the chucking nut and replace the handle. Done.

I'm Having Problems With My System, What Should I Do?

Heavy, Blotchy or Uneven Coverage
  • Airflow Setting to High – Lower Airflow setting
  • Holding airbrush too close to the face - Stay 6 to 8 inches away from your face to prevent the makeup from being caked on or blotchy.
  • Allowing too much makeup to flow by pulling trigger too far back – Only pull the trigger about 1/3 to 1/2 way back for a very light feathered and soft spray. Pulling the trigger past the midpoint can result in a heavy, blotchy or uneven coverage.

Airbrush Not Spraying
  • Clogged Nozzle – Remove and clean nozzle
  • Damaged Nozzle – Remove and replace with new nozzle
  • Tip Head is Loose – Tighten Tip Head
  • Needle not Moving – Tighten loose needle chucking nut
  • Air Pressure to Low – Adjust to higher airflow setting

Grainy or Textured Spray
  • Air Pressure to Low – Adjust to higher airflow setting
  • Dried Makeup on End of Needle – Remove, clean the needle
  • Dirty Airbrush Nozzle – Remove and clean nozzle
  • Makeup too thick – Use fresh makeup from a thoroughly shaken bottle, possibly have applied too much makeup

Bubbling Fluid in Cup
  • Clogged or Damaged Nozzle – Remove and clean or replace nozzle
  • Tip Head is Loose – Tighten Tip Head

Spray Cannot be Shutoff
  • Clogged or Damaged Nozzle – Remove and clean or replace nozzle
  • Dirty or Stuck Needle – Remove, clean the needle
  • Needle not seating all the way into the nozzle due to loose needle chucking nut - Push needle in until it seats in the nozzle, then tighten needle chucking nut
  • Sticky Trigger – Trigger and air valve packing need to be cleaned

Sprays Double Lines or Heavy on One Side
  • Split Nozzle Tip – Remove and Replace
  • Bent Needle Tip – Remove and straighten or replace
  • Nozzle Tip Not Centered in Tip Head – Remove and clean airbrush tip head threads and head thread assembly on airbrush
  • Dried Makeup on End of Needle - Remove and clean needle
  • Dirty Airbrush Nozzle – Remove and clean nozzle

Makeup Blobs at the Beginning of a Stroke
  • Spraying makeup before moving your hand – Have your hand in motion before triggering makeup flow
  • Makeup Blobs at the End of a Stroke
  • Stopping the airbrush movement before shutting off makeup flow - Follow through with your airbrush stroke until after the trigger is released to shutoff makeup flow

  • Splattering - Happens when the needle is allowed to snap back into the tip. Always release the trigger gently to avoid splattering.
